How to Pair Hearing Aids to iPhones

Hi, I'm Denise Kopecki, National Board Certified Hearing Aid Specialist at Texan Renew Hearing Center. Today we're going to go over how to pair your Oticon devices to the Oticon ON app for iPhones.

If we're using rechargeable hearing devices, we will want to do this when they're charged and off of the charging station. If you're using disposable batteries, you'll want to make sure there's a fresh battery in and that they battery door is closed.

The first 90 seconds of pulling them off of the charger or closing the battery door is when the devices are in pairing mode. 

In your settings, on your iPhone (not the Oticon ON app), you'll want to go to follow these steps:

General, Accessibility, MFi Hearing Devices

You'll want to make sure that your Bluetooth is turned on so that when you go to MFi (made for iPhone) it will pick up the devices.

You'll click the name of the hearing devices that pop up after clicking MFi Hearing Devices and hit "pair." You'll see the option to pair twice, this is for each device. 

Now that you have them paired you can see what the battery life of each of your hearing devices are.

The next thing you'll want to do is go over to your Oticon ON app. The first time you open it up, you'll see a screen showing where your devices are connecting. There's an informational help screen that will walk you through how to use the app. If you're already familiar with it, feel free to hit the "x". You can also hit the question mark in the top right hand corner if you have any questions while using the app. 

When you get signed in, you'll see "P1." This stands for program 1 which is the first general program in here. You're able to take your finger and swipe up on the screen to turn the volume up and swipe down on the screen to turn the volume down or even mute the devices. Zero on this scale is what we consider "home base." 

If you click on the button on the bottom you'll have options for Hearing Keeps Me Fit which will allow for pairing with your health monitors on your phone. Just like your step count, you're able to see what kind of noise environments you've been in. You will have to create a profile for this. Oticon hearing devices are a part of the If This Then What Network. So, you can connect your hearing devices with other smart devices in your home. 

The last option, and one of the most useful ones, shares the battery life, an instruction manual, and our favorite feature the Find My Hearing Devices for if you've misplaced them.  

There are a lot of great benefits to using the apps that are now available for MFi hearing devices. There are also capabilities for doing this with Android phones, some will just need connect clips.
